/an introduction

“Olivia. Babe.” The gorgeously confident voice said.

“It’s going to be fine. What’s the worst-case scenario?”

“I embarrass myself. Look like a fool. And hit rock bottom.”

“Well, you’ve been there, done that. So you, baby girl, have nothing to lose.”

[Pre]-PREFACE (Not about me, Olivia, but about the structure of this short piece below and still to come)

In advertising, when a creative director is coming up with a motion picture, like a TV spot, a social media post or any form of motion/animation, a case study video, etc, after we have our idea, look, and feel, we create something called a ‘storyboard’. A storyboard lays out each frame of the motion picture to clearly articulate to the producers what our visions are for the projects we’re working on. Really, in short, the main purpose is to guarantee that the heart and soul of our work will shine through as we cross the finish line with our project in hand. It’s a guide for the rest of the team to use as we all come together to bring the story to life.

Everything goes on a storyboard. The style of the craft, the angles of each shot, the voiceover and the exact dialogue of characters, the sound effects, the words that will appear on screen, the list goes on. When something cannot be shown in the frame, it’s described in parenthesis, [like this]. Such notes typically are camera directions, suggestions, visual cues, and portrayed character emotions. An example might be, [Camera zooms in slowly on hero’s sad solemn face and pans up to sky] or [Hold for emphasis]. Ultimately, it gives the producer more context on how we’d like to ‘show and tell’.

I’m not creating full storyboards, (at least not yet), but, now that you know what [this means], and what the pieces I hope to create will be like, without further ado…Here’s a little about me and what’s in store for you should you be interested in what you’ve read so far and want to return for more.

(Kinda about me, Olivia)

Hi. It took a minute. But I think I got my voice back…however, ‘THINK’ is the important word here. Maybe I’m still trying to find it…maybe that’s what this is all about.

It scares me to think about sharing ANY (clap) OF (clap) THIS (clap) but I guess what the heck. And who cares, right? Let the creative juices flow and you’ll either read the first sentence love it or hate it. Selfishly, this is more for me than for you. BUT hopefully, should you relate to any of this, find intrigue, and want to know more, then well…that will be a bonus.

If not, then “Hi, Bye. SO many hard feelings. But also, I’ll get over it and, seeeeeyah later”.

And So It Begins. My creative dumping ground.

Hope you enjoy.

Xx

Olivia Babe.
